Hope all you readers and fellow entrecard bloggers have a great new year! I'm hoping 2008 will bring good things. I would like to personalize my blog more as I get used to writing blog posts. If you are a blogger you should try entrecard its a fun and easy way to promote your blog and join a community of fellow bloggers.

100th New Years Eve Ball in New York!!

The new $1.8 million dollar 6ft ball, weighing about 1,100lbs, covered with 9,576 led lights uses the same amount of electricity as only 10 toasters. There will be 672 crystal triangles on the ball, creating a kaleidoscope of hues. The new design and technology will make the ball glow like nothing else.

The original ball was dropped down the flagpole at One Times Square in 1907.

Made of iron and wood, it was 5ft in diameter and lit with 100 25W light bulbs.

A fifth version of the ball, made from crystal, was created for the millennium celebration on New Year's Eve 1999.

If you are new to blogging read this first.

Getting ready for a change to Wordpress in the near future. There are two types of Wordpress. The first one is Wordpress.com which is a community of free blogs. Kind of like Blogger.com. Wordpress.com is limited in features but good if you are new to blogging. WordPress.org however has the personal publishing platform "Wordpress" which you will need your own hosting for. Wordpress is a state-of-the-art personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

If you run a blog and are not on the Wordpress platform and you think you will be running your blog for a long time to come. Then you should do what I'm about a week or two away from doing. I will keep my url Daveyblog.com and seek cheap hosting somewhere like Namecheap.com and get there pro-hosting for $6.95 a month.

New to Blogging?

Its been a month now since I have been posting and have learned a lot that I would like to share over my next few posts. Today I will give you some homework to do if your new to blogging and want to start your own blog. Here are a few easy steps to get you started.

Step 1. Go to blogger.com. And read other peoples blogs.

Step 2. Select the type of blog you want (personal, business).

Step 3. Create a google account so all the services that you use have the same username and password (from google.com click the my account in the upper right hand corner).

Step 4. Go to Namecheap.com and register a url. You can use that for your blogger blog. Mine cost me just over $9.00 for 1 year. Check the help area on blogger to learn how to change your blogs url.

Step 5. If you want to monetize your blog (make money from your blog) use adsense.
Its easy to add that right from the template tab.

Big crocodile!!

Are these pics of a crocodile in New Orleans real or a hoax?

An e-mail has been going around saying "This crocodile was found in New Orleans swimming down the street. 21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum. Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00 pm, currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel. The contents of its stomach will be analyzed this Friday at 2:30pm"







Hoax!..............Kinda

The pictures are real but the location and info on the croc are wrong. Apparently, the photographs were actually taken in Pointe Noire, Republic of the Congo,in 2003. The original email message is very similar to the current version, except that the prankster has relocated the action to New Orleans rather than Africa. According to an article discussing the original message on About.com, information about this giant crocodile was published on July 17, 2003 in La Semaine Africaine, a French language Congolese magazine.

Its an African croc that is about 16 ft and 1800 LBS at about 50 yrs old.
